Where to Stay
Three bases at Baqueira, what each feels like, and where to stay — from the ski-in resort base to the villages and the valley capital Vielha.
The Val d'Aran spreads along a single valley, and where you stay shapes your trip, but where you stay on it shapes your trip. Here are the three stretches that matter most to a visitor.
Which stretch should you stay in?

Baqueira
Baqueira 1500
The ski-in/ski-out resort base, steps from the lifts at 1,500 m.
The heart of the resort is Baqueira 1500 at the foot of the lifts, where the top hotels — the five-star Val de Neu, the ski-in Eurostars Royal Tanau, the Montarto — cluster within steps of the gondola. Most have spas and pools, and you ski straight to the door.
It is the most convenient base for a ski week: you step from your hotel to the pistes, the après bars fill as the lifts close, and there are no transfers. It is also the priciest place to stay.
- Good for
- First tracks, families with gear, a no-transfers ski week
- Don't miss
- An early-morning swim before the sunbeds fill
- Where
- At the lift base, 1,500 m
Naut Aran
Salardú & Arties
The quieter fishing-village end, with seafood at the water's edge.
Down the C-28 from the lifts, the medieval stone villages of Salardú and Arties trade ski-in convenience for real character — Romanesque churches, excellent restaurants and thermal springs at Arties — with ski buses running up to the lifts.
They are quieter and more atmospheric than the base — a good choice if you want village evenings, good dinners and a sense of place, and don't mind a short ski-bus ride to the lifts.
- Good for
- A quieter stay, seafood dinners, a village feel
- Don't miss
- Dinner at Taverna Eth Bot or the Arties thermal baths
- Where
- Down the valley from the base, on the ski-bus route
Vielha
Vielha
The valley capital — a proper town with services and value.
Vielha, the valley capital about 14 km down, is a proper town with shops, restaurants, the Aran museum and the widest range of rooms, including the panoramic Parador. It is the practical, better-value base if you want a town rather than a ski village.
It suits non-skiers in the group, longer stays and anyone wanting town amenities — with the ski bus up to Baqueira through the season.
- Good for
- A town base, value, non-skiers, longer stays
- Don't miss
- The Romanesque Sant Miquéu and the Aran museum
- Where
- The valley capital, 14 km down from the lifts
Where to Stay at Baqueira — FAQ
Where should I stay for a first visit to Baqueira?+
For a first trip, the Baqueira 1500 base is the easiest — you ski straight from the door, with the après bars and top hotels on the pistes. Choose a village or Vielha for more character or better value.
Which base is quietest at Baqueira?+
The villages — Salardú, Arties and especially the higher hamlets like Bagergue — are the calmest and most atmospheric, quieter than the base, with the ski bus up to the lifts.
Where should I stay for a town with services?+
Vielha, the valley capital 14 km down, is the town base — shops, restaurants, services and the widest range of rooms — with the ski bus up to Baqueira through the season.
Is Baqueira ski-in/ski-out?+
At the Baqueira 1500 base, yes — the hotels are metres from the lifts. From the villages and Vielha you ride the ski bus up. Once on the mountain, the lifts link all three sectors.
Is Baqueira good for families?+
Very. The gentle Beret nursery slopes, the ski school's children's classes, and the ski-in hotels with pools and spas make Baqueira one of the more family-friendly resorts in the Pyrenees.
