Baqueira Beret Ski Season

Late November – April

The heart of the year. Baqueira Beret usually opens in late November or early December and runs to April, its snowier, Atlantic-facing position making it one of the more reliable resorts in the Pyrenees. High season spans Christmas/New Year, the February half-terms and Easter; January to March is the most snow-sure window.

Marxa Beret (Cross-Country Ski Festival)

Late winter (February–March)

A long-distance cross-country ski festival held for decades on the Pla de Beret, organised by the Conselh Generau d'Aran and Baqueira Beret. It draws around 1,000 skiers from across Europe over 42 km, 21 km and a popular 10 km, and features on the FIS popular-races calendar and the Spanish long-distance championship. Check the current year's date before planning.

Festes del Foc — Haro & Taro (Fire Festivals)

Night of 23 June (Sant Joan)

The Val d'Aran's summer-solstice fire festivals, part of the 'Falles del Pirineu' inscribed by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2015. On the night of Sant Joan (23 June) villages burn a great tree trunk — the haro at Les, the taro at Arties — along with spinning cherry-bark torches (halhes), marking the start of summer. A striking, deeply local spectacle.

Things to Do at Baqueira — FAQ

What are the best things to do at Baqueira?+

Ski or snowboard the 169 km of pistes, take a lesson, try the celebrated off-piste with a guide, or head to Beret for cross-country and snowshoeing. Off the snow, soak in the Arties thermal baths and explore the medieval villages of the Val d'Aran.

What is the best day trip from Baqueira?+

The valley capital Vielha and the villages of Salardú, Arties and Bagergue make an easy day off the pistes. Further afield, the Aigüestortes National Park (Catalonia's only national park) and the French spa town of Bagnères-de-Luchon are within reach.

Should I book tours and day trips in advance?+

For lessons and guiding, yes — the ski school and off-piste guides fill up over the peak weeks (Christmas, February half-terms, Easter), so book ahead. Lift passes are cheaper bought online in advance.

What is there to do at Baqueira on a bad-weather day?+

When the mountain is closed by storms, head down the valley: the villages and their Romanesque churches, the Arties thermal baths, the Aran museum in Vielha, and the hotel spas all make a good weather day.

How many days do you need at Baqueira?+

A proper ski trip is a long weekend to a week on the snow, with a day off the pistes for the villages and the thermal baths. Our itinerary maps out how to structure it.
