Baqueira Beret Piste Guide: The Ski Area Explained

·3 min read·By Baqueira.net Editorial

Baqueira Beret is one of Spain's biggest ski resorts169 km of pistes and 130 marked runs served by 36 lifts across a 2,273-hectare skiable area, spread over three linked sectors and rising from 1,500 m to 2,610 m, with 1,110 m of vertical. Here's how the mountain breaks down and where each level should head. For the fee, see our lift pass guide; boarders, see snowboarding in Baqueira.

The three sectors

  • Baqueira (1500) — the main base and the resort's original sector, with the widest spread of terrain: cruisy blues, long reds, and the steeper bowls and blacks higher up. Most people start and end their day here.
  • Beret (1800) — the high, open Pla de Beret plateau, the sunniest and most snow-sure part of the resort. Wide gentle blues make it the home of beginners, families and the Nordic circuit.
  • Bonaigua — the third sector, on the slopes toward the Port de la Bonaigua pass, with some of the best reds and off-piste. It's all linked on one pass.

The runs by level

The 130 runs span every level — a handful of greens, a big spread of blues (the bulk of the mountain), plenty of reds, and a set of blacks — roughly 46% easy, 41% intermediate and 13% advanced — plus marked itineraries and a Nordic circuit. Five new blue slopes were added for the 2025–26 season:

  • Beginners — start on the Beret plateau's greens and gentle blues, the gentlest and most reliable snow.
  • Intermediates — the bulk of the mountain is blue and red, so Baqueira is a superb intermediate area; the long reds off the upper Baqueira and Bonaigua lifts are the highlight.
  • Advanced — the black runs and the celebrated off-piste in the north-facing bowls give strong skiers plenty; go with a guide off the marked runs.

The three sectors are well linked by blue and red runs, so most skiers can tour all of Baqueira, Beret and Bonaigua on one pass across a day.

Freestyle, boardercross & family zones

There's more than pistes. The Era Marmòta snowpark is the freestyle hub, with three lines (green, blue and red) and around 30 modules — jumps, rails and boxes for every level. Over at Beret you'll also find the Blanhiblar boardercross, a FunPark aimed at children, and a slalom stadium for racing.

Cross-country and mountain dining

Beyond the downhill, the Beret plateau has about 7 km of Nordic (cross-country) tracks through the pines. And Baqueira lives up to its food reputation on the mountain too: there are five themed restaurants at altitude plus a spread of some 20 eateries across the slopes and the Ruda and Baqueira 1500 bases.

Practical notes

The 36 lifts have a capacity of around 62,000 skiers an hour, so lift queues are rarely the story here. The top station sits at 2,610 m (Cap de Baciver), and the north-facing aspect helps the snow last — one reason Baqueira skis well into spring.

Frequently Asked Questions

How big is the Baqueira ski area?

169 km of pistes — 130 marked runs across all levels on 36 lifts, from 1,500 m to 2,610 m across the Baqueira, Beret and Bonaigua sectors. It is one of the largest ski resorts in Spain.

Which sector is best for beginners?

Beret. The high Pla de Beret plateau at around 1,850 m has the widest, gentlest and most snow-sure runs, plus the nursery area and the Nordic circuit.

Is Baqueira good for intermediates?

Very — most of the mountain is blue and red, with long cruising runs across all three sectors, so confident intermediates can ski the whole area on one pass.

Does Baqueira have a snowpark?

Is there cross-country skiing at Baqueira?

Yes — the Beret plateau has about 7 km of Nordic (cross-country) tracks, the flattest, most snow-sure part of the resort.
