Where two rivers meet — a stone village known for its natural thermal springs and some of the best eating in the Val d'Aran, with a Romanesque church.

Where two rivers meet

Arties sits at the confluence of the Garona and Valarties rivers, about 7 km down-valley from Baqueira — a village of stone houses and Romanesque churches with a reputation for two things: its natural thermal springs and some of the best eating in the valley.

The old Aranese settlement gathers around the Romanesque church of Santa Maria and the ruined tower of the Portolà family. Its hot springs have drawn bathers for generations and now feed a public thermal pool.

How to do it from Baqueira

It's about 7 km, 12 minutes by car on the C-28 between Vielha and Salardú, and the ski buses stop here — an easy evening trip for the baths and dinner.

Beyond the baths

Time it for an evening: a soak in the thermal pool and a long dinner in one of the village's restaurants. Arties strings together with Salardú, Bagergue and the capital Vielha for a full day of Aranese villages.
