The medieval capital of the Naut Aran
Salardú is the handsome medieval capital of the Naut Aran (Upper Aran) — a cluster of grey-stone houses and slate roofs about 4 km down-valley from Baqueira, and the most characterful of the villages within easy reach of the lifts.
At its heart is the 12th–13th-century church of Sant Andreu, whose bell tower rises over the rooftops. Inside hangs the celebrated Christ of Salardú (Sant Crist de Salardú), a 12th-century Romanesque wood carving regarded as one of the finest in the whole Pyrenees.
How to do it from Baqueira
It's a short hop — about 4 km, 10 minutes by car on the C-28 — and ski buses connect Salardú to the lift base through the season, so many visitors stay here for the village atmosphere and bus up to ski.
Beyond the church
Wander the tight lanes of the old core, then string Salardú together with Arties, Bagergue and the valley capital Vielha for a full day of Aranese villages and Romanesque churches.
